COOL-ER provides 1 gigabyte of storage and it includes a Secure-Digital (SD) card slot for expandable, removable storage. As with music, the number of books you can hold will depend on the type and size of book you download, but to give you an example, an average fiction bestseller is around 3MB. Whether you put your COOL-ER down for a minute or for the night, you don’t need to power the device off. The easy-read E Ink technology means COOL-ER only requires its battery for each button click. Leaving your current page on screen is a convenient way to pick up again where you left off… just like a paper book. However you will need to charge your COOL-ER regularly to ensure you do not find yourself powerless. We’ve also made sure you won’t accidentally flick though the pages if you put your COOL-ER in your pocket or handbag. Each button requires a tiny but perceptible click, which helps ensure you’ll always find your COOL-ER displays the page you left it on.Will updates be available for COOL-ER in future?
Using your COOL-ER’s memory card slot, you can update your COOL-ER with the latest software to ensure it’s always in first-class shape. Check the CoolReaders site for news on updates every now and then.back to top
Help me with COOLER-EBOOKS
At COOLER-EBOOKS we try our hardest to take away the frustration of this system by

Occasionally a book will get through our territory controls, you will be notified of this during the payment process. If this does happen please remove the book from your shopping basket Please note - don’t worry, if you have bought a book in one territory, you can still read it on your ereader if you go abroad.
- When you register and supply residence details

Authors and book publishers have traditionally sold and issued selling rights for their books by territories, this is known as Territory Rights. I’ve seen an ebook for sale on a different website – why don’t you have it?

Why?
It sounds as if you may be trying to use the acsm file to read your book. The acsm file is a small file usually less that 4kb which acts as a key for the full book. Each time you download a Digitally Rights Managed book you’ll actually be downloading the acsm key which will activate the full book download within Adobe Digital Editions. Try opening and signing into Adobe Digital Editions before downloading the key. The full download should then start as a matter of course. If you are still having problems, please see the section covering Adobe Digital Editions in more detail or for further assistance please contact Adobe at: www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions.Where are my ebooks stored?

Before you can read an ebook it must be downloaded from Adobe Digital Editions, using an .html or .acsm file to identify the ebook. It looks as if you’ve put the .html file on your COOL-ER instead of the .epub or.pdf file that holds the book’s contents. If you right click on the file on your computer and choose ‘Open with’ Adobe Digital Editions then your book will be downloaded and ADE will add it to your library.back to top
Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) FAQs
Is Digital Editions available in languages other than English?
Digital Editions is also available in French, German,Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional. Other languages will be released over time. Why do I need to authorize my computer with my Adobe ID?
Some digital publications that you purchase online or check out from a library may contain digital rights management (DRM) protection that restricts the items from being shared with others. In the past, this could limit the ability to read your items on additional computers owned by you. It could even prevent you from moving your items when you bought a new computer. Digital Editions helps ensure that your eBooks and other digital publications are not "locked" on one computer — they are assigned to you through your Adobe ID. Digital Editions also adds support for the next generation of mobile devices. Can I transfer eBooks that I have already purchased or downloaded to another computer?
Once you authorize your computer with Digital Editions, the application looks for eBooks already on the computer and converts copies of the items to a new named account license. You can then transfer those eBooks to other computers. If you have eBooks on multiple computers, you need to authorize each one with Digital Editions prior to transferring eBooks between them. What is the maximum number of computers and devices that I can authorize?
You can activate up to six computers and devices. If you reach the limit, please contact Adobe Customer Service to increase your allowable activations. What is PDF reflow?
Normally, a PDF document is WYSIWYG, (i.e. what you see is what you get). However, the PDF viewer in the Sony® Reader has a "reflow" mode in which it will reformat the text of the document to enable it to fit into the screen in a larger font. This mode is enabled when choosing the Medium(M) or Large(L) text sizes from the device. In general, this works very well – especially for documents that are mainly text, such as novels or essays. As the documents become more complex, with tables and figures, headers and footers and so on, the readability decreases. For complex, highly-formatted documents it may not be a good idea to reflow them. But in general, you will find most of your documents, especially novels, very readable. Why do some EPUB documents not look right on ereaders?
EPUB is a relatively new format. At this point, many publishers, large and small, are embracing the format. Since they are often new to the nuances, there are sometimes problems with the content that is being produced. To help with this process, Adobe, in conjunction with ereader manufacturers, has produced a “best practices” guide. The guide can be downloaded from the Digital Publishing Technology Center.I'm having trouble installing Digital Editions. Where can I get support?
Visit the "Getting started" area of Adobe Digital Editions Help for assistance with installation, or visit the Adobe Digital Editions Support Center. Why do some PDF documents look different in Digital Editions than they do in Acrobat and Reader?
Digital Editions utilizes Adobe PDF technology that has been optimized for small code size and lower system requirements. This technology has shipped in hundreds of millions of mobile phones and other embedded devices. It is optimized for performance and onscreen readability, rather than graphic arts or prepress-level fidelity. As a result, some minor differences in graphics and font rendering are to be expected. In addition, the Digital Editions PDF implementation does not support several enterprise-oriented PDF features. These features are not typically used in PDF-based eBooks, and if present, they are ignored but may cause certain documents to render incorrectly. What PDF language profile is supported by Digital Editions?
Digital Editions supports a superset of ISO standard 19005-1 (PDF/A). PDF/A is designed to support more secure, long-term information archiving; it is based on a subset of PDF 1.4 (the version of PDF supported by Acrobat 5.0). Additional PDF capabilities in Digital Editions beyond PDF/A include basic encryption, DRM-based encryption, JBIG2 image compression, transparency, and compressed object streams. The intention is to support in Digital Editions those PDF features reasonably needed by eBooks and other commercially published content, balancing 100% coverage with a focus on small size and high performance. Also, certain capabilities defined in PDF may be delivered in Digital Editions via SWF files or the new reflow-centric EPUB format.Which PDF features are not supported by Digital Editions?
PDF interactive forms, JavaScript, digital signatures, 3D, native PDF annotations, and JPEG 2000 image compression are not supported by Digital Editions. Can I continue to borrow PDF eBooks from my public library with Digital Editions?
Yes, Digital Editions fully supports Adobe Content Server DRM technology and is designed to work smoothly with existing library eBook lending services based on the Adobe Content Server infrastructure.back to top
